Opening batsman David Warner said he was unaware of the lost catch that enabled him to continue and score an incredible 163 in Australia’s 62-run victory against Pakistan in the World Cup on Friday in Bengaluru.

Usama Mir dropped the 36-year-old left-hander in the fifth over of the game off Shaheen Shah Afridi with Australia 22 for no loss and just 10 runs on the board.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-247596″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-day-1-box-office-earnings-for-ganapath-kriti-sanon-and-tiger-shroffs-movie-are-slo.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com day 1 box office earnings for ganapath kriti sanon and tiger shroffs movie are slo” width=”1151″ height=”766″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-day-1-box-office-earnings-for-ganapath-kriti-sanon-and-tiger-shroffs-movie-are-slo.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-day-1-box-office-earnings-for-ganapath-kriti-sanon-and-tiger-shroffs-movie-are-slo-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1151px) 100vw, 1151px” title=”David Warner on Usama Mir's dropped catch: "I didn't even see it because I was blocked by 'Bison'" 3″>

In order to assist his side amass 367-9, he went on to score a 124-ball 163 and, together with Mitchell Marsh (121), put up an Australian World Cup record 259 for the first wicket.

Warner, who was named man of the match for his innings that included nine sixes and 14 boundaries, said that he “actually didn’t even see him drop it.”

“I was behind Marsh, a.k.a. the ‘bison. Actually, I was disappointed that I didn’t get one as well. Being an opening batsman means you have to deal with it. You’re likely to take some risks if you’re going to pursue it.

Imam-ul-Haq (70) and Abdullah Shafique (64), Pakistan’s opening pair, gave their side a strong start of 134 runs. However, the middle-order batting collapsed, as Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa claimed 4-53 despite experiencing back spasms.

Marsh turned 32 on Friday, and Warner expressed his happiness for him.

“He told me today that he hasn’t really scored any runs on his birthday so he’s happy about that and I think tonight’s Indian tradition, cake in the face,” added Warner.

“You would constantly fight for him, and I was so thrilled for him. He’s a nice guy to have around the locker room, you know. He always has a unique personality, makes everyone around him look their best, and is the life of the party.

“it’s what you need in teams, and you need it in these games when the stakes are so high. It was fantastic.

Australia’s World Cup campaign has been reinvigorated with two straight victories following as many defeats thanks to their victory on Friday.

Given the history of this field and the possibility that a little amount of dew may arrive and make it somewhat easier to bat on, Warner remarked, “I honestly thought 350 was probably par.”

Australia, a five-time winner, will take against the Netherlands the next day in New Delhi.
